Themes for English B

I feel like this article by Langston Hughes is sort of what we are required to do on this first post. The essence of this article is that an instructor would like us to go home and write about whatever we think about. The author used the article to describe a little about himself. So this is a little about me.
From my daybook
My name is Michael Shaw. I am from a small town north of Greensboro named Summerfield. I have always lived here and have never moved. I have two pets. A cat that is named Prime Time and a dog named Marcello. I love both of my pets and miss them as I start my first few weeks of college. I am very new to the idea of blogging and for the most part, I have never thought that I would like to do this; however, I am keeping an open mind and see where the next few weeks takes me.

  1. So I definitely can relate when you say that you want to keep an open mind about this. I feel the same way. It is kind of strange, and different but maybe that is why we are doing it?

  2. I really don't understand blogging, it feels like a therapy session? lol I don't know what her motive behind all the technology things like twitter are but I guess we'll find out. Oh and I went to Greensboro in July to go see the X Factor tapings. :)

  4. This is interesting you all... there are definitely some composition theorist who talk about the writing as therapy kind of analogy. I think it could be useful sometimes, but it's not really my particular motivation. I am interested in several things with blogging and twitter particularly. One is how we can find public conversations for our writing and joining, creating or negotiating authentic places for writing (rather than say always or only writing essays for the teacher). One other thing I have been thinking about is how we can document and witness our own writing practices, both for assessment purposes and as a source for reflection. Digital spaces seem really accessible places for doing this work. Hope to keep talking to you all more about this stuff.
