Winter break is over and everyone has come back to school relaxed and ready for a new semester. This semester is going to be a difficilt one for me. I am taking 18 credits over 7 classes. I am sure that I will be able to do it, but it is going to be difficult. Anyways, classes started this week and that meant that we started with the "interesting" approach to English 1102. For you all in my writing group that dont know, I had Lacy last semester for 1101. Her class was interesting and fun. It's hard to believe that an english class can be fun but the was that Lacy approaches it is very different. Last year she did imporv sessions almost every day and this allowed us to be silly and relax before class started.

So this week we started out with playing these string games. They are something that i used to play when i was younger and completly forgot about. These string games allowed us to let are creativity show and make simple designs out of a single string. We also watch a "TED" speach that talked about how everyone can be a "Maker". I think this semester is going to be another great one and i am excited.
A Little About Me
I figured since we are all going to be basically writing to each other for the next 16 weeks, i would tell you a little about myself. My name is Michael Shaw. I am currently studing to be an Electrical Engineer. I am a freshman (I think all of us are) and am looking to start a Co-Op next year. I have two pets, a dog named Marcello and a cat named prime time. In my spare time, I ompetitevely mountain bike, play drums, guitar, piano and I am a DJ.
I am excited to get to know you all this semester and I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. :)
I feel your pain on the workload and hard classes this semester man. I have all core classes and they are rather difficult since my major is Pre-Nursing. I really enjoy it, but it's very hard, and the workload is pretty intense. I also definitely agree with you saying Lacy's approach is different and difficult. My English class was extremely easy last semester. All you basically had to do was write 3 major papers and some journal entries, and that was it for the semester. But I am also excited to get to know you too this semester!
ReplyDeleteI also am a freshman taking 18 credit hours so I can definitely relate. Good luck in Electrical Engineer! I do agree that she gives a lot to do but I don't think much of it is too hard. My English 1101 class we barely did much but all papers we did submit counted as a major grade. I look forward to working and getting to know you this semester, Michael!
ReplyDeleteOkay first off, I am very jealous. I wish I could play an instrument. Secondly, your cat's name is very strange. And now on a serious note...I also had Lacy last semester. I was in the 8 o'clock class, which I think was too early for me to get into the improv sessions. I think the whole class was still sleeping, but I enjoy Lacy's approach to English class as well. She makes it fun and interesting for everyone. You will definitely have a busy semester, but I believe we are never given more than we can handle! Good luck this semester with all your classes and I look forward to getting to know you.
