So on Thursday for class, we met in the SAC with a few classes of high school students and we talked to them about college readiness. These are the same students who we wrote to for out midterm assignment. It was interesting to finally meet these kids and talk to them about high school. It is weird to think that was me last year. it feels like it has been so long and i have grown up so much since then. I feel like the information that i told them was very accurate and they asked a lot of questions about college. I saw how excited they were about college and how they want to experience the college life. I thought it was a really interesting and a different experience and one that i never would have thought that i would have in an English class.
I agree with you and I also had a weird feeling as well. I thought back to my life a year ago and realized how much my life has actually changed. It's crazy how much college changes us as people and how we grow up so much just in our first year. The students at my table also asked a lot of questions and it felt good that I was able to answer all of them.
ReplyDeleteYes I feel the same way! High school feels so long ago since so much has changed. I think if I had the same chance those students had to actually go meet with college students as a senior I would've probably been better prepared. Even looking back at the beginning of my first semester so much has changed! I'm glad I could answer the students' questions from personal experience because that is a good way to prepare for college. Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteYeah I like how we got to meet them too, especially since we are writing to them in our letters. I think it gives it more meaning. I wish my table would have asked more questions about my experiences so far, but they mostly stayed on task with assignments.
ReplyDeleteI wasnt able to come to class on this day, but I heard that it was a really good experience. Especially since we had been writing to these students about our views and ideas on college readiness. I think that it was a good idea to do this with the high school students because it kinda gave them a preview on college, and it helped being about to talk to college students about college readiness as well.
ReplyDeleteIt was really cool imagining how we were in their seats last year asking questions about college and so eager to learn, and now we're the ones giving the advice. I thought it was a really neat experience because it was very easy to relate to them because it was only last year when we were in their positions.
